A common problem plaguing managers all over the world is how to motivate their staff during these tuff economic times. It's no secret that company layoffs, business closures, and foreclosures are in the forefront of everyone's mind. You and your employees come to work everyday with these thoughts on their minds, its no wonder productivity has suffered.

Keeping staff motivated is not an easy task during a recession. However, there are things you can do to turn distracted minds back to work. First, having honest communication with your staff can help to allow them to vent their fears and worries. Ignoring these concerns will only serve to increase their anxiety, consequently lowering their productivity. Communicate company changes immediately keeping your employees in-the-loop, will foster a greater sense of trust.

Hold monthly town hall meetings with staff will be a great way to allow them to vent concerns, and give you a chance to address problems with everyone. Small changes in these times of constant uncertainity can encourage some small feeling of security.

Stay tuned for Part 2.
